Blast Off!

Blast Off!

If this doesn’t make you want a DSLR so you can accent your photos with shallow depth of field, I don’t know what will. This photo is also an incredible display of the tracking focus found in the SLRs. I’m pretty sure there were no post-processing cheats (HDR, for example) in this picture which makes me even more drawn to it. Definitely a stunning shot!

  1. Wow, thanks for the kind words. I took this photo of my son firing a rocket a few weeks ago. I have only been taking photos for a couple of years, but digital has made everything so easy.

One huge advantage of digital is the ability to see what you are doing real time. It took about 10 tries to get this shot, I would have my son count down, take a shot, adjust apature, iso etc. With film you would have no idea what you had.

You are right that I did basically no processing on this shot, pretty much downloaded from the camera and threw it on flickr.

The camera is a Canon 7D with a Canon 135mm f2.0L lens. I shot this wide open f2.0 single shot, not in burst mode, so it was a little timing and a lot of luck.

    Exposure: 0.001 sec (1/1000)
    Aperture: f/2.0
    Focal Length: 135 mm
    ISO Speed: 100
